Seeking Experienced Paralegal.
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience handling personal injury matters including litigation management, medical record review, and all aspects of the discovery phase. The candidate must understand and be able to implement calendaring deadlines without the need for a calendaring software. The candidate must possess a strong knowledge of the Code of Civil Procedure regarding law and motion and the calendaring that coincides.
The candidate must have a strong understanding of the key responsibilities listed below:
Key Responsibilities:
- Workload for One Lawyer: Assist with in drafting discovery, pleadings, and expert designations along with support the lawyer with e-filing and e-service when appropriate.
- Case Management: Assist attorney with managing personal injury cases from the filing of the lawsuit through settlement or trial. Organize and maintain case e-files, ensuring all documents are properly filed and up-to-date.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to personal injury cases. Stay informed on changes in personal injury law and applicable local and state rules.
- Document Drafting: Draft complaints, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other pleadings. Prepare and file court documents in accordance with local rules and deadlines.
- Discovery Support: Assist with discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions. Review and summarize discovery responses.
- Medical Records and Bills: Obtain, review, and organize medical records, bills, and other evidence. Summarize medical records and prepare timelines for attorneys.
- Client Communication: Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide case updates, and answer questions. Act as a liaison between clients, experts, and opposing counsel.
- Settlement and Trial Preparation: Assist with preparing trial exhibits, and other materials needed for trial. Prepare witness lists, deposition summaries, and trial binders.
- Calendar Maintenance: Track and manage deadlines, including court dates, discovery deadlines, and statute of limitations.
- Court and Filing Procedures: Prepare and file documents in state court, including e-filing on third-party e-filing platforms. Familiarity with local California court rules and procedures is required.
