We are seeking a self-motivated, experienced Trust & Estates Probate Paralegal to work closely with the attorneys in the Trust & Estates field. The Paralegal will interpret legal documents and reports while maintaining positive contact with attorneys, staff, and clients and observe confidentiality of client and firm matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (not all inclusive):
· Prepare probate court filings, inventories, and accountings.
· Produce informal summaries and accountings for trust and estate beneficiaries.
· Ability to work on an estate from the time of client’s death; gathering information about assets and debts, through to distribution of assets from the decedent to the estate to the beneficiaries.
· Prepare and update status reports of estate administration for attorneys.
· Communicate with trust and estate beneficiaries regarding distributions. Attend meetings with successor trustees and PR's as necessary.
· General bookkeeping duties as identified and as needed.
· Record billable hours/time daily; review and edit bills monthly; print, copy and pay final bills monthly.
· Organize, scan, copy and fax legal documents in a timely manner.
· Draft, read, and interpret legal documents, including trustee appointments and resignations and trust amendments.
· Update and organize electronic and physical files for easy access.
· Regular and dependable attendance is an essential function in the job.
· Handles special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned from time-to-time by the attorneys.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Knowledge of financial and legal management principles in order to assist with the responsibility for the firm’s Trust & Estates & Administration Probate at a level normally acquired through completion of degree and/or certification or equivalent experience in the Trust & Estates Probate field.
· Approximately 1-3 years of experience with all aspects of the probate process, and trust administration including collecting and distributing assets, and preparing accounts.
· Ability to demonstrate impeccable integrity in personal and fiduciary matters.
· Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorney, staff and clients. Provide information and customer service with courtesy and tact.
· Knowledge of AvidLaw is helpful in this role.
· Working knowledge of Excel is required.
