Position Summary
This role is ideal for a highly organized, experienced litigation paralegal who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented legal-medical environment. The position requires direct interaction with attorneys, courts, medical experts, and agency personnel, with a focus on leadership, coordination, and accountability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven litigation experience including discovery, trial preparation, and docket management.
- The ability to supervise and mentor junior paralegals and legal assistants.
- Exceptional calendaring skills for managing court schedules, deadlines, and forensic consultation timelines.
- Familiarity with forensic and medical terminology in a legal context.
- Skill in preparing litigation-related legal documents, filings, and discovery responses.
- Experience in legal billing practices, especially time tracking for reimbursable legal services.

Primary Responsibilities
- Report directly to NAAG’s in-house general counsel
- Coordinate and provide support to NAAG’s forensic attorneys
- Supervise junior paralegals and legal support staff, assigning tasks and overseeing accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism in all work products
- Manage complex litigation calendars, including court deadlines, expert disclosures, filing dates, and hearing schedules across multiple jurisdictions
- Coordinate closely with outside counsel and agency attorneys to ensure timely preparation and delivery of forensic reports, affidavits, and exhibits
- Oversee litigation discovery: request, review, and organize case materials including medical records, expert reports, law enforcement files, depositions, and legal pleadings
- Prepare timelines, summaries, and demonstrative exhibits using medical and forensic data for trial or deposition
- Manage subpoenas, including tracking deadlines and coordinating compliance with legal and medical professionals
- Track and document billable time associated with agency participation in litigation matters; work with accounting and legal departments to ensure accurate and timely billing
- Attend case conferences, court hearings (remotely or in person) when needed, and serve as lead litigation liaison for case coordination
- Ensure that litigation-related documents are correctly stored, indexed, and maintained in the case management system
- Assist the agency's General Counsel and retained attorneys in complex litigation matters involving multiple parties, sensitive materials, or high-profile cases
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of paralegal experience, with at least 2 years in litigation.
- Strong command of legal calendaring, task management software, and document management systems.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Computer proficiency (Apple and PC) including Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.
- Excellent communication skills and professional writing ability.
- Must pass a Background Investigation (including criminal check and drug/alcohol screening).
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to travel, including internationally; valid passport required or must be eligible to obtain one.
- Must be comfortable handling sensitive material including graphic medical content and disturbing case evidence.
- Must be able to work unusual hours as needed, including evenings or weekends for deadline-driven litigation tasks.
Preferred Experience and Credentials
Experience working in a law firm, government agency, or forensic/legal-medical setting.· Familiarity with forensic pathology, medical malpractice, or criminal defense work.· Spanish language skills (preferred but not required).· Paralegal Certificate or Degree (preferred).· Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
Working Environment
This is a full-time, in-person position based in San Diego, CA. We seek individuals who are self-directed, team-oriented, and capable of working with minimal supervision in a complex legal-medical environment.

Pay: $28.00 - $45.00 per hour
