We offer a broad range of legal services in various practice areas. We are looking for a highly motivated Accounting Assistant to join our growing team. As an integral part of our finance team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the firm’s smooth and efficient financial operations.

Overview: The Accounting Assistant reports to the Office Manager and is responsible for providing accounting support, performing data entry, ensuring that all client-related internal disbursements are posted to the client’s matters on time, processing and monitoring payments and expenditures, and training staff in complying with proper accounting and trust procedures. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, tech-savvy, highly detail-oriented, accurate, and willing to learn new things. The right candidate must also be hardworking, reliable, and a collaborative team member.

Specific Duties

Provide secretarial and administrative support to Lawyers and other staff as required, especially billing adjustments during billing deadlines.
Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
Process and code invoices and expense claims accurately and in a timely manner.
Prepare and process payments via cheques, EFTs, and wire transfers.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements.
Record credit card transactions (deposits and disbursements) and payments on the accounting system
Send EFT remittances to vendors
Bank runs when necessary
Daily monitoring and tracking of trust accounts and client retainers
Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge And Skills Requirements

A minimum of 2+ years’ experience in accounting, accounts payable, general bookkeeping, or accounting support.
Certificate or diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or a related field.
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are essential.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and effectively
Experience working with cloud-based accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar).
Service focused, a positive can-do attitude.
Highly proficient level in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
Legal industry experience is an asset, but not required—trust accounting training will be provided.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
